Avoid unless you feel good after being cheated
To his credit, Ira is perpetuating the time honored tradition of the notorious Rug Merchant. He knows more than you do about every item in his inventory. He can assess your vulnerability within moments. He will charm you, unless you know what you are buying and have a good impression of what other dealers offer similar quality of artifacts and provenance. The moment you display knowledge, Ira will turn on you. Why? Because he knows you cannot be cheated. If he cannot charge you $8K for something worth only $800, then Ira has no use for you and will quickly walk you to the door. Only a lazy fool, a person unwilling to do a simple hour or two of research, would purchase from Ira. If you have an interest in collecting objects of genuine cultural and artisinal value, then I encourage you to research dealers you can trust and build a life time relationship with. After doing this research, I encourage you to evaluate Ira against your findings.
